I love a good techno-thriller and this is a great one. I haven’t had my mind blown like this since I first discovered Michael Crichton in high school. The high-octane thriller doesn’t take it’s foot off the throttle from the opening pages all the way to the end as you race your way through a wonderfully inventive sci-fi roller-coaster ride.
Jason Dessen, by his own words, is a mediocre physics professor. He’s happily married with a teenage son. His life is perfect. He has no regrets. He could have been a prize-winning scientist, researching and making new discovering in the field of quantum physics but the choices he has made has led him to the life he is living and he is happy. Until the night he is abducted at gunpoint, drugged and left unconscious. When he awakes everything has changed. He is no longer married, his son has never been born and he is no longer a college professor but an award-winning scientist. What has happened? Is Jason locked in a dream? Does he have a brain tumour? Or is it something else?
As Jason begins to unlock the answers the truth leads him on a race against time and space. A race to get back to the family he knows and loves. But will Jason survive long enough to get home and will he be able to recognize it if he finds it?
This is a thriller like no other. This book will not only blow your mind it will turn around and blow your mind up. Not only that, I think the book characters are going need some serious psychiatric help to get over the ending of the book. I know it is still giving me a headache trying to get my head around it. Clever, thought-provoking and an absolute thrill ride. This reminded me of Michael Crichton at his best. Blake Crouch rivals the work Claire North is currently doing and on the strength of this book I will definitely be checking out Wayward Pines now on TV.
