Colin Meloy’s UNDER WILDWOOD

Colin Meloy returns to the Impassable Wilderness in the second instalment of the brilliant Wildwood Chronicles.

All seemed well in Wildwood after Prue and Curtis rescued her baby brother from the clutches of the Dowager Governess. Prue returned home while Curtis stayed behind to learn how to be a bandit. But the peace Prue and Curtis won for Wildwood is on shaky ground. A group of deadly assassins have been dispatched to kill Prue and the only safe place for her to hide is with Curtis and the bandits in Wildwood. But all is not what it seems and soon Curtis and Prue are on the run, not only for their lives but that of all their friends too.

I enjoyed book two even more that book one. This time we get to follow Prue and Curtis together as they must outwit shape-shifting foxes and come to the aide of a group of mole knights as the journey through tunnels and catacombs beneath the Impassable Wilderness. The journey puts a strain on Prue and Curtis’s friendship and tests their loyalties. Prue must also come to terms with her new gift of being able to hear the trees and plants.

Meloy also has fun with a group called “The Titans of Industry”. One member, Joffrey “Machine Parts” Unthank, has heard rumours of a world beyond the Impassable Wildness and will do anything to gain access to this world so he can harvest all it resources.

This was such an enjoying, absorbing and rollicking adventure. And left me dying to find out what happen in book three!
