George R.R. Martin’s A DANCE WITH DRAGONS

I started reading A Game Of Thrones halfway through watching the first season last year. So I feel as if I’ve come full circle having finished all the current books in time for the second season.

As with blogging about the other books I’m not going to go anywhere near the storyline as I don’t want to spoil anything. The only thing I will comment on this time was that I was fascinated re-watching the first season of Game Of Thrones to see that even though the story and characters has obviously gone a long way in five, almost 1000 page, books there are still loads of things unresolved if not more than we were left with after the first book. Also I had way more empathy and even sympathy for Jamie Lannister. Questions are still left unanswered, there is still a raft of secrets (if not more) but the story is definitely hurtling toward a massive conclusion or show down or who the hell knows.

A Dance With Dragons runs concurrently with A Feast For Crows until around page 700 when all the storylines line back up again making for some furious reading of the final 400 pages of the book. I don’t know what the hell I’m going to do over the next 2-3 years while I wait for the next book, Winds Of Winter and judging by the time between the other books it could even be longer. In the meantime there is the HBO series and this:

  1. Best of luck in waiting for a conclusion to this series. Martin has stated that there are at least TWO more books and with five to six years between books (NOT two to three) I suspect that Martin will never finish the series (the more so since he becomes petulant when criticised for not working on it).
